Argento and Garzón sponsor Rolling Stones premiere

South American estates Bodega Argento and Bodega Garzón have teamed up to sponsor the premiere of The Rolling Stones’ documentary Olé Olé Olé: A Trip Across Latin America.

The Rolling Stones’ travelogue Olé, Olé, Olé! will receive its UK premiere at the Curzon Mayfair on 7 November

The travelogue film follows The Stones on their latest tour through 10 Latin American cities commenting on the relationship between the pioneers of rock and their fans.

Last month the indefatigable rock and blues band announced the release of their 25th studio album, a collection of blues covers titled Blue and Lonesome, which they described as “five decades in the making and just three days to record”.

Ahead of the first UK screening of the Olé Olé Olé! documentary on 7 November, Bodega Argento, from Mendoza, Argentina, and Bodega Garzón, from Uruguay’s Maldonado region on the Atlantic coast, are offering Stones fans and film buffs a chance to sample a selection of their wines.

In addition, a private after-party will be held at Peruvian restaurant Coya in Mayfair, where guests at the premiere will have the opportunity to taste Garzón Albariño, Garzón Tannat, Esquinas de Argento Malbec and Argento Pinot Grigio alongside Peruvian cuisine.

“We are really excited about sponsoring the Rolling Stones premiere,” said Gustavo Crespo, the UK managing director of Blends Wine Estates, a family of quality-focused wineries which includes Argento and Garzón.

“The documentary gives us an insight into the vibrancy of South American culture combined with the best of British rock. Wine is like music – it transcends borders and brings people together – we’re excited to be associated with such an iconic band and a documentary which brings the lands behind our wines to life.”

Olé Olé Olé! premieres at the Curzon Cinema in Mayfair on Monday 7 November with a VIP audience in attendance.

Comuna range launch

Meanwhile Bodega Argento is to introduce UK consumers to Comuna, a new line of “fresh and fun” Buenos Aires-inspired wines, in Sainsbury’s stores this winter.

Crafted to “pair perfectly with light-hearted social occasions”, the Comuna range features a classic soft, fruity Mendoza Malbec and a crisp, aromatic Mendoza Pinot Grigio, both priced at an RSP of £7.

The name ‘Comuna’ refers to the different districts of the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires and is Bodega Argento’s attempt to bring the unique spirit of the city to UK consumers.

Buenos Aires is divided into 15 different ‘comunas’, each with its own distinct personality and story to tell, Argento’s managing director in the UK, Gustavo Crespo, said.

Comuna No 3 (Balvanera and San Cristóbal) is considered to be the birthplace of tango (1890s) and is the inspiration for the range’s vibrant labels.

“We are very excited to be launching Comuna in Sainsbury’s this winter,” Crespo added.

“Both varieties, Malbec and Pinot Grigio, have a huge following in the UK and with the great value Comuna offers we expect to see these stylish wines fly off the shelves.”

Argentina is the fastest-growing country in the UK off-trade, according to Nielsen data, with volume sales up 29% in 2015. Malbec is driving growth with sales up more than 50% last year (in the year to 2 January 2016).
