The World’s 50 Best Restaurants has teamed up with Tourism Australia to bring the series to Melbourne in 2017, where world-leading chefs, restaurateurs, sommeliers and media will gather to celebrate the very best in global gastronomy. Running from 1-7 April, the World’s 50 Best Restaurants will champion Australia’s famed food and wine culture to an international audience made up of industry professionals and food lovers.

Melbourne’s historic Royal Exhibition Building has been chosen to host the lavish ceremony on 5 April.  2016’s awards were held in New York in June this year,  with Modena’s Osteria Francescana claiming the number one restaurant spot.

William Drew, group editor of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, said: “After 14 years hosting the awards event in London, we decided to take The World’s 50 Best Restaurants on a global tour, kicking off in New York in June 2016.

“Now we could not be more thrilled to be moving to Melbourne, one of the great food cities of the world, in 2017. Come April next year, Australia will undoubtedly be the place to be for those passionate about great food and inspired restaurants. In partnership with Tourism Australia, we will also take the opportunity to highlight the country’s unique produce, brilliant wines and dynamic dining scene.”
