After a big, buttery barrel-aged Chardonnay or a nice mature claret with fustian whiffs of mushrooms and pipe tobacco? Probably best that you don’t dine at Nopi then.

This is very much a list of our times, and for the eco-spiritual, vegetarian-leaning gastronomes of London for whom ‘artisanal’ and ‘recherche’ are watchwords, it’s a cornucopia of delights.

Organic, biodynamic, minimal intervention, natural, amphorae, qvevris, rare indigenous grape vareties, strange blends, wine made from wild grapes, orange wines, volcanic wines – it’s all there. And we love it.

It’s a compact offering where the ‘classics’ are pushed to the periphery and orange wines come to the fore. Paolo Vodopivec’s Vitovska (six months on the skins in amphorae, then aged for two years in old oak casks, £61 per bottle) and Gabrio Bini’s Zibbibo (£70) are worth a visit to Warwick Street in themselves.

Interestingly, and excitingly for some, there’s even a section of the list devoted to wines of volcanic origin. Wines like San Michele di Ganzaria’s Nerocapitano from Etna must be tried.
