It’s no secret as to how difficult the process to become a MW is, with applicants assessed to check they meet the Institute’s criteria, which is holding a wine qualification of at least WSET Diploma (or equivalent) and having a minimum of three years experience in the wine trade. Applicants are also required to sit an entry exam, which comprises a Theory (essay) and Practical (tasting) element.

With so much to take care of, it can be difficult to stay on top of things, but that’s where WineTutor.tv founder Tim Wildman MW comes in.

Tim explains that WineTutor.tv is an online resource for students studying for the Master of Wine (MW) qualification as well as other higher level wine examinations such as Master Sommelier (MS) and WSET Diploma. Having been established in 2015 by Tim and videomaker Johnny Mindlin, the website provides short video tutorials that advise, guide and orientate students in their self study program. The content is free to view and accessible by anyone who registers on the website.

And since the site’s launch in September 2015 WineTutor.tv has already attracted an impressive global audience of almost 1500 registered viewers – including over 90% of the world’s MW student population.

Tim’s engaging videos in Exam Technique are a distillation of his years of teaching private MW classes, as well as the best tips and techniques from MWs and students. The bite size videos are broken down to help students mindmap what they need to ensure of a good chance at passing the rigourous testing.

New videos are posted on a regular basis, with the aim over the next two years of building up to a total of 150 films covering all the topics of the MW syllabus.
