Hush Heath Estate has produced Tesco’s first ever own-label English sparkling wine

As reported in db last week, Tesco has boosted its own-label range with the introduction of more than 20 new lines under its core and finest* wine range.

The finest* English Sparkling by Heath Hush Estate is the first own-label English sparkling wine to be released by Tesco. It comes as Aldi also releases its own-label English sparkling in partnership with Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey.

At 11.5% ABV, the Tesco finest* English sparkling has been released in response to “growing consumer demand for first-class English sparkling wine at a very accessible price point”.

The launch comes as Hush Heath owner Richard Balfour-Lynn prepares to travel to the US in support of the biggest ever shipment of English sparkling wine across the Atlantic.

As reported in the drinks business, the British Bottle Company sent its first full 20ft container of English wine – more than 5,000 bottles of fizz – to the US last month. Around half of the shipment was wine from Hush Heath Estate.

Commenting on the estate’s partnership with Tesco, Balfour-Lynn said: “As a boutique, family-owned winery using only estate-grown grapes, we’ve been in an ideal position to work closely with Tesco developing an English sparkling blend exclusively for the finest* range.”

“The team at Tesco and Hush Heath Estate had Tesco customers firmly in mind while developing the blend, ensuring a typical expression for English sparkling wine, and most importantly that every bottle delivers the quality and flavours that Hush Heath Estate is recognised for at a price point that is incredible value.

Aldi makes move on own-label English fizz

Meanwhile Aldi also announced that it was set to boost its wine range with a premium English sparkling wine made by Denbies in Surrey

The Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine, priced at £14.99, will go on sale through aldi.co.uk and at selected stores from 2 October.

Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine is described as a “high-quality, dry and refreshing wine full of citrus aromas, a hint of flora and brioche”, with a “creamy texture, long, zesty finish and finely balanced acidity”.

John Worontschak, head winemaker at Denbies, said: “We’ve been making the finest English wines on the Denbies Estate since 1986 and are delighted to have had the opportunity to work alongside Aldi to create an exclusive blend, making the very best of English sparkling wine accessible to all.”

Tony Baines, Aldi’s joint managing director of corporate buying, added: “The English sparkling wine market is booming as more and more Brits are recognising it as a world class product, worthy of going head to head with the finest Proseccos and Champagnes.

“Our buying teams have listened to this increasing consumer demand and we are proud to introduce the top quality Chalk Valley Quality English Sparkling Wine to wine drinkers nationwide.”
