GPL 2009 at record high

The 2009 vintage of Grand-Puy-Lacoste has risen to an “all-time high” on the Liv-ex exchange.

The wine traded at £600 a dozen this week, an increase of 25% of its trade price of £480 at the beginning of the year, Liv-ex reported.

Robert Parker called the wine a “beauty” and awarded it 95-points, the same as the 2010 from the château although the 2009 continues to trade at a small discount to the ‘10’s £620 a case.

Other Grand-Puy-Lacoste vintages have hit new highs so far this year including the 89-91-point 2007 (£315), the 94-point 2006 (£430) and the 92-point 2005 (£760).

The Pauillac fifth growth is not the only claret seeing back vintages scaling new heights on the exchange.

Last month Angélus and Talbot both saw multiple back vintages, including the 2009s and 10s as well as older vintages including 2001, 2002 and 2004, rise to new records.

The latest news feeds into the wider storyline of the fine wine market at present which is one of increasingly positive monthly gains, largely on the back of the Bordeaux indices.
