Majestic highlights own label wines at foodie festival

Majestic is to set to promote its own-label Definition range at a London food festival over the bank holiday weekend, as it gets ready to extend its own label drinks line.

Majestic promotes Definition range at food festival

The wine retailer is highlighting five wines in its best-selling Definition range at the Foodie Festival in Alexandra Palace, comprising the Pouilly Fumé, Chardonnay,  Rosé, Pinot Noir and Rioja Reserva, as well as selling glasses of its Definition Prosecco to festival-goers. It has also launched a competition to win a pair of tickets to the festival and a bottle of Definition Prosecco.

The range, which launched in October 2015 and hit the £6m mark earlier this summer, is set to be extended by four new skus following the addition of a Chianti Classico and Pouilly Fumé in May. The new lines will take the total Definition range to 18 skus, starting with a Beaujolais and Blanc de Blancs Champagne in September followed by two more in the winter.

Speaking to db recently, UK retail boss John Colley said the range had captured customers’ imagination, and been boosted by some key national awards.

Colley also confirmed Majestic is also planning to launch a more premium own label new brand, comprising six or seven products that will sit at a higher price point than it’s Definition range.

“If you think of good, better, best, it is in the fine/premium wine territory,” Colley said.

The Foodie Festival, whose sponsors include Wines of Rioja, will also feature wine tasting, champagne, craft beer and a series of master classes in its Drinks Theatre.
