Queen visits her local after day at the races

The Queen surprised patrons at a Scottish pub last week after she and a small party stopped by for supper after a day at the races.

It was recently revealed that the monarch dropped in at the Sheep Heid Inn in Duddingston near Edinburgh after attending Musselburgh Racecourse’s 200th anniversary celebrations.

The small group enjoyed two portions of lamb rump and a sea bass fillet with a martini and half a bottle of white wine.

The 650-year-old pub has had brushes with royalty before. In the sixteenth century Mary Queen of Scots is said to have stopped by and played skittles in the courtyard while her son, James VI of Scotland, is reputed to have given the inn its name when, in 1580, he gave the landlord an ornate ram’s head for some service or other – perhaps after enjoying a particularly excellent lamb supper himself?
