Pokémon Go spawns Chardonnay Go skit

Augmented reality game craze Pokémon Go has given rise to a wine-based comedy skit, Chardonnay Go, from US comedian Dena Blizzard.

Chardonnay Go – a gaming app for bibulous mums

The skit, broadcast this week on social media, shows the comedian maniacally pursuing glasses of Chardonnay using Chardonnay Go, “an app for mums” on her mobile telephone.

Pokémon Go is a mobile gaming app in which users hunt for Pokémon characters made in real-life locations by viewing them via mobile telephone screens.

The drinks business reported last week on how Pokémon Go was presenting restaurants and bars with a unique opportunity to increase footfall.

The game which launched in the US just two weeks ago, has led to players going into otherwise unfrequented bars and restaurants to ‘catch’ Pokémon which.

Within the game are GPS-based “Pokéstops”, where you can pick up virtual supplies to use within the game.

Some restaurants and bars in the US have worked out that if they are positioned near to such a stop, users of the game can easily be enticed into their establishment.

Pokémon Go is a free-to-download app but offers in-app purchases such as balls that help players capture the Pokémon creatures. Since the game’s launch shares in Nintendo have risen by more than 12%, giving it a market capitalisation of about ¥3.2 trillion ($31 billion), the Wall Street Journal reported.

The BBC reported app analytics company SimilarWeb as saying that Pokemon Go now has more daily users on Android phones in the US than Twitter.

There were reported to have been 15.3 million tweets worldwide about Pokemon Go in its week of launch – 3.6 million more than for Brexit in the week of the UK referendum.

Published on Dena Blizzard’s Facebook page, Chardonnay Go has so far received more than 21 million views. It can be viewed below.
