Jamie Murray OBE partners with Anakena

British Wimbledon doubles hopeful Jamie Murray OBE has signed a two-year endorsement deal with Chilean wine brand Anakena.

Jamie Murray has become a brand ambassador for Chilean wine brand Anakena as brand owner Accolade Wines continues its association with some of Britain’s biggest sports stars

The partnership with the Davis Cup winner and ATP world number one doubles player endorses the wine brands support of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), brand owner Accolade Wines announced.

As reported in the drinks business, Anakena became the official wine of British tennis and the Lawn Tennis Association in December 2015.

As part of the partnership, Murray, who is competing for a place in the fourth round in the Wimbledon Doubles tournament with doubles partner Bruno Soares, has produced a short brand video with Anakena profiling his career.

In the video, which is being publicised on social media, the tennis ace talks candidly about the highs and lows of his career and the struggle to reach the top of his discipline.

In addition, Anakena is sponsoring a daily column in the Evening Standard throughout Wimbledon, which will feature Murray’s commentary on the competition.

The first of these columns featured a 75p discount coupon for purchases of wines from the Anakena Birdman range. Murray will also be working with Anakena across national in-store promotions over the next 12 months, Accolade said.

“I’m delighted to be aligned with Anakena wines, and to be supporting their partnership with British tennis. The story behind the wine is fascinating and I am excited to work with the brand as it launches here in the UK,” Murray said.

Amy White, marketing director for Accolade Wines, commented: “Anakena is a high-quality wine brand with a strong international standing as a producer of world-class, distinctly Chilean wines.

“Having agreed to a long-term partnership with the LTA earlier this year, we are delighted to partner with a British tennis player who has a world-class reputation and global appeal. We look forward to welcoming Jamie to our stable of ambassadors and of course we’ll be backing him all the way on the court!”

Murray joins the elite band of sporting brand ambassadors within the Accolade Wines portfolio, including cricketers Stuart Broad, Glen McGrath and Sir Ian Botham, who have featured significantly within the recent England v Australia cricket campaign with Australia’s Hardys.

Rugby players Sean Fitzpatrick (ex-All Black), Jason Robinson (England), Gavin Hasting (Scotland), Paul Wallace (Ireland), Shane Williams (Wales) have also signed up as Accolade brand ambassadors.

The sportsmen all feature on the recent  ‘Wine and rugby, it’s clear as mud’ advertisements for New Zealand wine brand Mud House, which have been aired during SANZAR coverage on Sky Sports in the UK.
