Top Bordeaux to lead Bonhams sale

Bordeaux and Champagne make up the lion’s share of Bonhams upcoming fine wine sale in London.

Taking place on 26 May, the sale is expected to make over £400,000 and features an “exceptionally strong” collection of claret and Champagne.

One hundred and sixty-eight “pristine” cases of blue chip Bordeaux spanning 2009 to 2013 makes up the bulk of the sale with lots including 2009 Lafite and Latour and 2010 Margaux and Cheval Blanc.

Champagne is represented by “mature” vintages of Krug, Bollinger, Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, Dom Pérignon, Cristal and Comtes de Champagne.

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is likewise well represented by cases of its 1988, 1997 and 1999 Romanée-Conti, and there are cases and half dozens of De Montille’s 2009 Vosne-Romanée, Les Malconsorts, Cuvée Christine, Dujac’s 2010 Clos St Denis and Clos de la Roche.

Bonhams’ director of fine wine, Richard Harvey MW, said: “For the second sale running we are able to offer exceptionally strong collections of Bordeaux and Champagne – but we also have an interesting cross section of wines from around the world including five lots of Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Eiswein 2002 estimated at £900-1,000 per six half-bottles. This is a wine rarely seen at auction and I anticipate a lot of interest.”
