Bar rolls out Harry Potter-inspired cocktail
A bar is offering a cocktail inspired by the Harry Potter books and film franchise.
The Village Inn Bar and Grill in Bowness-on-Windermere, England, has created their version of the wizarding brew as the ‘butterbeer cocktail’, inspired by JK Rowling’s creation and incorporating a ‘secret’ combination of old fashioned butterscotch sauce, butter, vodka, lemonade and cream.
“We’re delighted with the reaction to our new butterbeer cocktail and were keen to create a really unusual taste,” bar owner Ian Dutton said.
Dutton said the timings was “appropriate” given the recent death of Alan Rickman, who played Hogwarts’ Potions Master and the series anti-hero, Severus Snape.

“We’re all Harry Potter fans – who isn’t?” “He was one of our favourite characters – so it’s also a nod to him,” Dutton said.
It is presumed – given the quantities of butterbeer drunk by the students at Hogswarts in the local Hogsmead pub The Three Broomsticks – that the original wizarding butterbeer was a soft drink – clearly not enough to satisfy Harry’s best friend Ron Weasley, who was reported to crave a taste of Ogden’s Old Firewhisky.
Not really the first time this has been done… We had it on our menu 2 and a bit years ago after our manager Alex Clark created the drink to win the 42 Below vodka comp and a trip down to NZ to represent England.
