‘Spectacular’ Burgundy results at Christie’s

Christie’s London fine wine sale realised over £1 million this week, driven by strong global bidding.

Taking place on 17 March, the sale made £1.3m in total, 94% sold by value and 87% by lot. Christie’s reported that close to a quarter of lots were sold to online bidders from Denmark, Hong Kong, Italy, Singapore, the US and the Netherlands.

Chris Munro, head of the London Wine Department, commented that it was, “a tremendous start to the London wine season as we witnessed spectacular prices for rare cases of fine Burgundy.

“The top lot was a rare full case of Romanee-Conti 1988 which made an impressive £112,000. Elsewhere we also saw strong prices for Echézeaux 1995 from Henri & George Jayer making £25,850.

“White Burgundy also starred with an extremely rare full case of Montrachet 2005 from Domaine Leflavive making £47,000. We look forward to our sale online-only sale on 15 April.”
