2013 Sassicaia released

The “extraordinarily elegant” 2013 vintage of Sassicaia from Tenuta San Guido has been released.

Available from today (2 February), the latest vintage from the Super Tuscan is described as “extraordinarily elegant” and “classically defined” by its UK agent Armit Wines.

Although the 2013 vintage in Bordeaux as one of the most difficult if not simply the worst vintage of recent years, in Italy the situation was quite different with “excellent” growing conditions throughout the year.

The 2013 Super Tuscans – as well as being much sought-after – are expected to have a “long and distinguished future”.

James Snoxell, head of buying at Armit, said of the Sassicaia: “The 2013 vintage is an extraordinarily elegant wine with an expansive bouquet of sweet red cherries and wild berries.

“On the palate, bright redcurrant fruits mingle with Mediterranean spices, exotic wild herbs and a delicate balsamic note. Beautifully balanced and energetic with a fine mineral structure and magnificent length, this is a classically defined Sassicaia with considerable ageing potential. Anticipated maturity 2025 to 2040.”

The price per six bottle case is £525 in bond.
