Work begins on new Glenlivet site

Work has begun on the new distillery at The Glenlivet which will “significantly” increase capacity for the single malt.

The ground was broken by master distiller, Alan Winchester, on 19 August (pictured) and work on the new site is now well underway.

Little has been revealed as to exactly how much extra capacity this will give the Pernod Ricard-owned single malt but the new site will reportedly allow it to treble production levels and includes a new distilling building, tank and equipment area, a replacement bioplant and new pipework.

Pernod Ricard said in a statement: “Chivas Brothers has forged ahead with its investment into enhancing the production facilities of The Glenlivet distillery to ensure that current and future demand for ‘the single malt that started it all’ continues to be met. Today [2 September], work officially began on the site, which will significantly increase capacity.”

The news comes after Pernod Ricard announced that, having sold over one million cases in 2014, Glenlivet is now the “number one” single malt Scotch in the world.

The statement continued: “The Glenlivet recorded the standout achievement for Chivas Brothers with +11% net sales growth, a result of the brand’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship through launches such as Founder’s Reserve, the extension of the Master Distiller’s Reserve range and The Winchester Collection.

“The Glenlivet has successfully driven consumer recruitment and attracted Scotch connoisseurs to the brand, which has made it the largest contributor to the growth of the single malt category in the past five years.”
