Rare Champagne dominates late June auctions

Sotheby’s and Hart Davis Hart will be offering rare collections of top Champagne alongside a cornucopia of other fine wine at their sales in late June.

Sotheby’s London sale on 17 June will feature a vertical of Krug Clos du Mesnil from 1979 to 1998 (pictured above), Billecart Salmon’s rare cuvee Nicolas François Billecart from 1985, 1991 and 1995 and other Champagnes in various formats dating back to the 1960s from Louis Roederer, more Clos du Mesnil, Dom Pérignon Oenothèque and Taittinger’s Comtes de Champagne.

Meanwhile, HDH’s Chicago sale from 26-27 June features an ex-cellar offering of Dom Pérignon “P3”, including: three magnums of 1966, 12 bottles of 1971 (all 2013 disgorgement) and three magnums of 1985 rosé (2008 disgorgement).

Burgundy also features heavily in both sales, Sotheby’s offering Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Leflaive from the cellar of a “well-known” Michelin-starred restaurant as well as Domaine Leroy, Lafon, de Vogüé, Rousseau and Henri Jayer, many of the same names making an appearance at HDH’s auction too.

The Sotheby’s sale also features Italian wines from Il Caberlot that are “rarely seen at auction”, as well as a vertical of Yquem from 1937-1988 (£2,800 – £3,600) and a bottle of 1945 Taylor’s Port.

HDH meanwhile features an “astounding” 17-vintage library of Screaming Eagle (in original cases) and an “encyclopedia” of Unico that spans 25 vintages.
