Pub’s ‘shameless’ campaign funds makeover

A rundown pub has launched a novel campaign to convince the internet to fund its renovations by promising to “shamelessly name parts in the pub in your honour”.

Bugs in the Tatura Hotel

The Tatura Hotel in Victoria, Australia, has launched a campaign on crowdfunding site Indigogo offering the internet the chance to become part of its history by having a piece of it named after you, right down to the beer mats and pool cues.

Introducing the brazen campaign landlord Bugs Ryan is brutally honest.

“Well folks, it’s pretty simple. We’ve run out cash and the place needs fixing up so this town can have a decent place to have a pot of beer and a chicken parma”, he said.

“We need to get our guest rooms up to standard, fix the balcony and get some better play equipment for the kids. And that’s just the start.”

In return for a donation, investors will receive perks including a beer and Skype chat with Bugs, as well as various items named in your honour including the pub’s bar stools, pool cues, bar mats and even its car park.

The honour of having the men’s toilet named after you has already been snapped up by one lucky individual who donated AUD$500, as is the pub’s signature Chicken Parma, with an anonymous bidder having donated $1,000 to have the dish named after them.

For $2,000 the hotel will hang an oil painting of you in its dining room – an honour already claimed by one investor – while for $2,500 you can have its outdoor stage named after you.

As Bugs insists: “Nothing says “I love you” like putting her (or his) name on a barstool in a pub in country Victoria.”

The campaign has already raised $16,457 with 39 days left of the campaign to run, with a goal of $65,000.
