UK politician receives beer tribute

Former UK Conservative party leader and Foreign Secretary William Hague MP has been honoured with a specially made beer to mark his retirement from politics.

Hague, who once famously claimed to have regularly drunk 14 pints a day during his teenage years, can now enjoy a pint of “Smooth Hague”, a 4.4% abv porter-style beer, which was commissioned by his local Richmond Conservative Association and made by North Yorkshire Brewery.

Introducing the latest addition to its range, the brewery said: “This extra smooth porter is brewed with a particularly smooth Yorkshireman in mind.”

Available direct for £35 for a box of 12 bottles, the beer will also be served in the House of Commons bars and is due to be available in pubs across the north-east of England from next week.

As reported by The Northern Echo, Hague has given his seal of approval to the brew, saying: “I am extremely impressed by this beer named in my honour.

The North Yorkshire Brewery have done a fantastic job as always and I hope many people will take the opportunity of enjoying this fine beer.”
