The Pawn to open rooftop ‘farm’

Wan Chai pub, The Pawn, has announced it will be opening its rooftop bar, ‘The Farm’, this April.

Opening on 5 April the new rooftop includes an urban farm filled with over 20 different herb varieties from buckler sorrel to bronze fennel and along with a kitchen and bar will be open for hire to private events.

The rooftop bar is the creation of new head chef, Tom Aikens, who has been in charge at the popular Hong Kong venue since it reopened in November last year after a long refurbishment.

A number of the new herbs from the garden will also feature in The Pawn’s cocktails.

Beginning with its formal opening this coming Easter Sunday, The Farm will be holding the “Rooftop Cookout” every other Sunday from 12pm-3pm with diners invited to an “outdoor feast” of salads, pork belly, rump steak, salmon skewers and beef burgers.

The Pawn’s mixologist, Joanna Kent, has created five cocktails to be served on the roof as well including: There’s Something About Mary (Cabeza Tequila, Luxardo apricot brandy, watermelon, chili, salt & pepper and lime) and Gypsy Juice (Encanto pisco, carrot, celery, ginger, apple and coconut water).

Tickets are priced at HK$598 per adult and HK$300 for children under 12.

The cookout is just one of several initiatives The Pawn is hoping to hold in order to raise awareness of heritage conservation and sustainable dining.

Other planned events include weekend markets, urban-farming workshops and “community-driven events”.

“We believe the heritage values of the building should be shared and appreciated by all,” explains Alan Lo, co-founder of Press Room Group, “The rooftop not only invites guests to appreciate views of the vibrant neighbourhood, it also reinforces our commitment to sustainable dining.”
