Czech football coach promises free beer

Czech Republic boss Pavel Vrba has taken the bar-side football bet to a new level, banking on the success of his team by offering free beer to their fans.

If the Czech Republic claim four or more points from their upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Turkey and Kazakhstan, every fan who attends the third clash against Iceland will get a free beer.

That means that with at least a win and a draw – which pundits would view as very manageable for the skilled Czech team – he could find himself with a hefty bar bill.

Czech boss Pavel Vrba made the pledge along with a counter-offer – promising to work a shift in a brewery if his team doesn’t measure up.

He said at a press conference this week: “Just as I believed in this team for the match with the Netherlands,” whom they recently beat 2-1, “so I trust them in the matches against Turkey and Kazakhstan.”

“If we succeed, the fans will drink free beer in the match with Iceland and hopefully be satisfied. If we get six points, then I will probably go directly to the brewery for a keg.”

However, it may take more than a keg to slake the thirst of the biggest beer drinkers in the world.
