Royal rhubarb gin released in London
A limited edition gin made from a variety of rhubarb first grown in Queen Victoria’s garden is to launch exclusively at London’s Fortnum & Mason.
Warner Edwards’ Victoria Rhubarb Gin has been created by infusing rhubarb and sugar with Warner Edwards’ Harrington Dry Gin, before being bottled at 40% abv and hand-sealed with red wax at the Northamptonshire distillery.
The rhubarb used in the gin was originally grown in Queen Victoria’s garden making its way to Warner Edwards via the President’s residence in Dublin and Crown Estate Land.
Co-founder, Tom Warner said: “Our Rhubarb Gin is smooth and earthy with an exquisite fruity balance of sweet and sour. The rhubarb combines natural acidity with a fruity sweetness to create a real palate cleanser that’s exceptionally quaffable.”
The pink liquid, packaged in a wax-sealed bottle, is designed to pay homage to the Penny Black Postage Stamp with its design intended to be be reminiscent of the Victorian postage system.
Just 8,000 bottles of Victoria’s Rhubarb Gin have been produced.
It will be available at the department store from 1 September with an RRP of £35.
