Plumpton College appoints new winemaker

Plumpton College in Sussex has announced the appointment of Sarah Midgley as its new winemaker.

Sarah Midgley will take over responsibility for winemaking at Plumpton College.

Midgley will join Plumpton in time for vintage on 8 September from Cornwall’s Camel Valley where she has worked as assistant winemaker.

Midgley studied her first degree in biochemistry at Manchester University before taking a graduate diploma in oenology and viticulture at Lincoln University in Christchurch, New Zealand.

She has since also gained experience working vintages in wineries around the world including Australia, New Zealand and California.

Midgley returned to the UK in 2010 where she was recruited as assistant winemaker at Camel Valley.

In addition to her winemaking teaching duties at Plumpton, Midgley will also take responsibility for the commercial side of Plumpton Wine Estate including wine sales.

The appointment follows the retirement of Peter Morgan after 10 years at the college.
