Vines escape ruin from raging bushfire
An Australian vineyard has narrowly escaped destruction after a bushfire swept through the Barossa Valley yesterday.
A huge bushfire ripped through the area on Tuesday as south Australia sweltered in temperatures of 45.1C.
Caught in the danger zone was the Krondorf vineyard at Grant Burge’s Estate Winery in Tanuda which has miraculously escaped unharmed thanks to the efforts of the SA Country Fire Service.
Grant Burge is a fifth-generation Barossa vigneron and winemaker with a winemaking heritage which can be traced back to 1855.
He said: “Our sincere thanks goes out to all SA Country Fire Service crew members and the many Barossa locals who worked hard last night to quell a bushfire on our grazing land at Krondorf.

“We are very lucky that our homes, winery, cellar door and vineyards were not affected.”
Fires continue to blaze throughout the area with predicted temperatures expected to remain in the mid 40s over the next two days.
