Marqués de Cáceres unveils limited 2007

Rioja producer Marqués de Cáceres is looking to show what its parcels of old vines managed to achieve in the 2007 vintage with the launch of a Limited Edition Reserva from this year.

Marques de CaceresA blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Graciano, 21,300 bottles of the wine have been produced, following 24 months of maturation in barrel and a further 18 months in bottle prior to release.

The Limited Edition Reserva is produced in years when, according to the producer, “the quantities of quality grapes from old vineyards are in shorter supply.”

To explain this situation in 2007, Marqués de Cáceres highlighted the “unusual weather conditions” that year, when low rainfall and cool temperatures resulted in a delayed growing season and smaller, less compact bunches.

Despite the smaller than average production from these old vineyards, the producer noted that the same cool conditions “allowed the grapes to mature gradually” with the resulting wine showing “perfect acidity, intense aromas and mature tannins.”

For this reason, although 2007 is not widely considered to be on the same quality level as 2001 or 2004, Márques de Cáceres indicated that for its own vineyards the vintage “is comparable to some of the best harvests in recent years.”

Due to be targeted primarily at the on-trade, the Limited Edition Reserva 2007 is expected to have an RRP of around £18 per bottle.
