AC/DC to launch ‘Platinum’ wine

Veteran rock band AC/DC are to launch a limited edition, “super-premium”, Barossa Valley Shiraz onto the market this September.

AC/DC are to release their “super-premium” Platinum Shiraz 2010 onto the market next month

According to Australian website The Shout, AC/DC Platinum 2010 Shiraz comes housed in a collector’s gift box that aims to appeal to fans of the band.

Made with grapes from low yielding old vines in Australia’s Barossa Valley, the wine has been aged for two years in American oak.

Its black glass bottle is emblazoned with the band’s logo and finished with a pewter neck collar.

Platinum was born of a collaboration with New South Wales-based Warburn Estate, who the band hooked up with in 2011 on a four-strong collection of wines.

The range included Back in Black Shiraz, You Shook Me All Night Long Moscato, Highway to Hell Cabernet Sauvignon and Hells Bells Sauvignon Blanc.

The quartet proved a huge success, selling over 6,000 cases the week they launched.

“To put together something like this – the rarity, the collectability and never-before-seen packaging – has been a labour of love for everyone involved,” Francis Fusca, executive director of sales and marketing at Warburn Estate, told The Shout.

Due for release in September, AC/DC Platinum Shiraz will be made available on allocation only, with all pre-orders having to be placed through Warburn Estate.

AC/DC are not the only rock band to have a wine line; fellow aging rockers Motörhead entered the wine game in 2011 with Sacrifice Shiraz, which was relaunched in bag-in-box packaging earlier this year shaped to look like an amp.

Kiss, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake and Slayer also have branded wine ranges.
