Hong Kong’s homage to Catalunya

Hong Kong is next in line to be imbued with the spirit of El Bulli, as the latest in a line of restaurants boasting the rich culinary traditions of the Spanish region, married with an El Bulli heritage, the Catalan-inspired Catalunya made its (soft) landing this April.

Being located slightly off the beaten path in Morrison Hill doesn’t appear to have dented its popularity, as it already boasts an almost-full reservation book for its first full month of operation.

Taking up residence in the quiet, leafy neighbourhood, this comfortable and spacious restaurant takes its cues from the original Catalunya, located in Singapore, and was designed by award-winning New York firm Avroko.

Boasting a well-honed team of experts, including staff previously at some of the world’s most celebrated Spanish restaurants, including El Bulli, El Celler de Can Roca – just named number one in the World’s 50 Best Restaurant List – Mugaritz, Arzak and Restaurante Martín Berasategui, and helmed by Group Execuitive Chef Alain Devahive Tolosa, who learned from celebrated culinary maestro Ferran Adrià during a decade at El Bulli.

The restaurant’s enviable cellar boasts a number of Spanish gems, including Gramona Celler Battle 2002, Mas d’en Compte 2008 and Allende Calvario 2006.
