Calon-Ségur prices still climbing
In a trend on-going since September last year, Calon-Ségur has seen continued price increases following its sale.
Liv-ex has noted that the estate has seen strong growth into the new year. The 2000 and 2008 vintages have apparently proved particularly popular.
However, all of the château’s recent in-bottle releases have appreciated in value between the sale in June 2012 and January this year, the 2002 and 2007 by over 40% to £49 and £45 a bottle respectively.
The 2004 in particular has risen nearly 60% to £49 a bottle.
Many are now approaching the £50 a bottle mark, a price only the 2000 vintage (£62 p/b) exceeds.
The 2001 and 2003 vintages by contrast saw the slightest increases of the last 10 vintages.
Despite the overall success, Liv-ex asked if Calon’s prices are approaching a ceiling, “or will they rise further?”
