Top sommelier to promote Krug in the US

Krug has appointed master sommelier and winner of “Best Young Sommelier in the World” as its first brand ambassador in the US.

Ian Cauble

Called Ian Cauble, the high-achieving sommelier will become the brand’s spokesperson in the US, hosting tastings and training events to promote Krug.

Cauble joins Krug after having just been inducted into the Court of Master Sommeliers and after starring in SOMM, a documentary following the process of passing the Master Sommelier test.

The film will premiere at Napa Valley Film Festival next month and you can watch a trailer here.

“As one of the most successful young sommeliers already having travelled the world extensively and worked as an apprentice in wineries, we are proud to have Master Sommelier Ian Cauble join Krug as our first ever brand ambassador here in the United States,” said Krug’s US director Carl Heline.

Cauble’s first initiative, Krug House New York, was a week-long chance to interact with the trade, media, and consumers.

As part of Krug House — held at a Chelsea townhouse —  was a private celebration in honour of Madeline Triffon MS, recipient of the Second Annual Krug Lifetime Achievement Award, which Ian hosted alongside Olivier Krug (sixth generation of the Krug family) and Margareth Henriquez (president and CEO of Krug).

The Krug Lifetime Achievement award was conceived to recognise achievements in wine service, education, and hospitality and was first awarded to fellow Master Sommelier and industry veteran, Roger Dagorn, last October.

America’s first certified female Master Sommelier, and a former chairman of the American Chapter of the Court of Master Sommeliers, Madeline Triffon is currently sommelier for Plum Market in West Bloomfield, Michigan.

Krug House New York also hosted two charity dinners with chef Marc Forgione benefitting The James Beard Foundation, as well as a Krug Lover’s Party, featuring music by Arthur, a live performance by MNDR, and a surprise performance by dancer and YouTube sensation, Marquese “Nonstop” Scott.

Continuing his journey this year, Cauble will be in New York again this December for a Krug Auction at Sotheby’s, with offerings direct from Maison Krug for the first time since it was founded in 1843.

The sale spans nearly 40 years of Krug with Champagne from legendary vintages such as 1961, 1979 and 1982.

Among the highlights from the sale are four old bottlings of Krug Grande Cuvée Champagnes no longer available in the US and a case of 1990 Krug Clos du Mesnil, expected to fetch $18,000-25,000.
