Lucy just about had time for a quick change before boarding a yacht for a sunset cruise with Claudia Brown of WOSA (middle) and Tina Gellie.

To kick off Cape Wine 2012 in style, guests were treated to a green tie bash on the waterfront, full of small plates, fine wines and break dancers.

One of the highlights of the trip was a vertical tasting of Klein Constantia’s famous sweet wine, Vin de Constance, going back to the Sherry-like 1986 vintage, where Hubert de Bouard of Château Angelus and Bruno Prats, formerly of Cos d’Estournel, were in attendance.

Winemaking at Klein Constantia, which recently merged with Anwilka Vineyards, is in the capable hands of young maverick Matthew Day.

db’s Lucy Shaw caught up with the charismatic, hirsute Swartland pioneer Adi Badenhorst at Cape Wine, who seemed very proud of his green tractor…

Lucy also found time to taste Prince Harry lookalike Marc van Halderen of La Vierge’s playfully titled wines, from Original Sin to Satyricon.

One of the more outlandish labels from Cape Wine 2012 – Craig Hawkins’ Testalonga El Bandito Cortez Chenin Blanc.
