First ever vines to be planted in Dublin

McGuigan Wines has confirmed dates for its City Vineyard concept, which will be rolled out in central Dublin this September.

The Dublin City Vineyard project will see Meeting House Square become a “real life” vineyard complete with over 100 vines, a cellar door, wine barrels, tractor and a winemaking team led by chief winemaker Neil McGuigan and company founder and director Brian McGuigan.

The vineyard – as previously reported by the drinks business is the first ever planted in Dublin’s urban centre – will take place from the 4-9 September.

This will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the McGuigan Black Label range. Visitors to the urban vineyard will be encouraged to walk amongst the vines and be amongst the first to taste the new release Semillon Blanc and Black Label Rosé.

The McGuigan City Vineyard in Dublin follows successful installations in London, Sydney and Melbourne designed to attract new customers.

McGuigan Wines chief winemaker Neil McGuigan said, “Dublin City Vineyard provides the perfect platform to champion Australian wine – ‘spreading the word’ that Australian wine is as relevant today as ever. It’s about showing our commitment to the Irish market. The Australian category is number one in Ireland, and we see activities such as Dublin City Vineyard as key in maintaining our market leading position. It’s about innovation in communication and how we, as the Australian industry, engage with one of our key growth markets.”

“The Irish market is of utmost importance to McGuigan, and our international success. We are currently the number two global wine brand in the market – this is our stake in the ground, our letter of intent that we are gunning for the number one spot.”
