IWSC promotes wine through art

The International Wine & Spirit Competition has set up a tie-in for one of its top medal winners with an event featuring one of Spain’s most exciting young artists.

IWSC Gold Best in Class winner Marin Old Vine Garnacha 2008 from Bodegas Ignacio Marin in Cariñena, Aragon, will be served at a live painting event by Xavier González d’Egara.

Taking place tonight, Friday 23 March, at the Imitate Modern Gallery in London, the event will see the BBC’s Robert Elms introduce González d’Egara, who will create a new piece of art in front of guests.

The self-taught artist, originally from near Barcelona but now based in Berlin, was inspired and praised by fellow Catalan artist Antoni Tàpies, widely recognised as one of the greatest modern day painters, who died last month.

The event marks the start of an exhibition of González d’Egara’s work, which will be on display at the gallery until 10 April.

Explaining this collaboration, David Kelly, sales & marketing controller for the IWSC Group stated: “As a competition, we are always looking for ways to promote our medal winners and this is an example of how linking wine together with art for a really interesting promotional opportunity.”
