Symingtons donate ambulance to Douro firemen

Symington Family Estates has donated an ambulance to volunteer firemen in the Douro.

Following a long standing policy of helping local charities in the region, on Saturday members of the Symington family handed the keys of a new ambulance to Senhor Carlos Fernandes, president of the volunteer fire brigade of Carrazeda.

The ceremony was followed by lunch at Quinta dos Canais with Mayor of Carrazeda José Luís Correia and the local Member of Parliament Dr Maria José Moreno.

The Symington family owns several vineyards in the Carrazeda district, including Graham’s Quinta do Tua, Cockburn’s Quinta dos Canais, Dow’s Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira and Smith Woodhouse Quinta do Vale Coelho.

This is the fourth new ambulance given by Symington Family Estates in the Douro in recent years.

Other recipients have been the Volunteers in Pinhão (2007), São Joao de Pesqueira (2009), Provesende (2010) and now Carrazeda in 2011.

In 2008, medical equipment was given to the Red Cross in Sabrosa.
