60 years of Grange on offer in Hong Kong

Christie’s will auction a full set of Penfolds Grange spanning six decades in Hong Kong this weekend.

The collection covers the experimental first vintage of 1951 through to the current vintage of 2006.

Each bottle has been authenticated and signed by one of Penfolds chief winemakers, including Max Schubert, John Duval, and Peter Gago.

The collection was acquired over several decades by a South Australian private collector, Reno Munuzzo, whose close friend Schubert personally cellared the earlier vintages, periodically re-corking bottles as necessary.

The auction is a key event during a fortnight of Penfolds activities staged for collectors, VIPs and global media from China and across the world, including the first international Penfolds Rewards of Patience tasting in Beijing, China, for the upcoming seventh edition of the Rewards of Patience.

This inaugural tasting (Bin 707, 1964-2010) for the Penfolds journal featured a panel of distinguished judges from across Asia together with Gago and author Andrew Caillard MW.

Penfolds also released its first Bin 620 in 50 years in Shanghai recently.
