Berry’s boost Italian offering

Berry Bros & Rudd has launched its first “Grand Italian” offer to showcase a collection of producers from across the country.

The new range follows the relocation of eighth generation family member David Berry Green to Piedmont three years ago, who has increased the number of Piedmontese producers on the BBR list from three to 14.

Speaking to the drinks business, Berry Green explained the focus on the region, saying, “It’s a stylistic development from Burgundy”, and admitted to being particularly keen on Langhe Nebbiolo.

He has also bolstered Berry’s Italian range from along the full length of the country. “I see a line going down Italy like the Apennines to Sicily,” he said, referring to the adoption of Nerello Mascalese from the latter island and further north, Sangiovese and Aglianico – “the Pinot Noirs and Cabernets of this country,” he commented.

Berry Green’s position in the source market follows the move of Jasper Morris MW to Burgundy for Berry Bros.

There is a profile of Berry Green in the September edition of the drinks business.

Berry’s Piedmont producers include:
Cornarea
Luciano Sandrone
La Colombera
Fratelli Alessandria
Cascina Delle Rose
Marcarini
Manuel Marinacci
Guiseppe Mascarello e Figlio
Rivella Serafino
E. Pira di Chiara Boschis
Giovanni Rosso
Cascina Fontana
Mascarello Bartolo
