Taste of London launches wine awards

Taste of London has announced the introduction of the Taste Wine Awards. Designed to complement the festival’s line-up of Michelin-starred food, the awards will take place the day before the main event opens at the official preview night on Wednesday 15 June.

Sponsored by eating out guide Blue Tomato, the awards will see over 75 wines being assessed in a series of blind tastings led by Taste of London’s wine expert Neil Philips.

Insisting that the time was right to raise the profile of the wine producers who exhibit at Taste of London, Philips declared: “The quality and diversity of wine producers exhibiting at Taste of London this year is unprecedented with producers like Freixenet, Laurent Perrier, Berberana and George Duboeuf setting the bar extremely high.

“Chapel Down will be flying the flag for English wines with Old and New World wines well represented including New Zealand’s St Clair Family Estate, South Africa’s Beyerskloof, Spain’s Chivite and Chateau Civrac from France.”

The Taste Wine Awards will be divided into three categories: the Taste of Summer Wine Award, the Foodies Wine Award and the Indulgence Wine Award.

The winners will be announced alongside the Best In Taste Awards, which sees dishes from each of the 40 restaurants involved this year being judged by a panel of critics.
