Hawksmoor to offer Yquem by the glass

Hot on the heels of Bob Bob Ricard, Spitalfields and Covent Garden Steakhouse, Hawksmoor is to offer Premier Cru Supérieur Sauternes Château d’Yquem by the glass.

Fans of the sweet wine will have to wait until November for the offer however, when Hawksmoor Seven Dials will be serving Yquem 1998 and apple pie for £22.

Hawksmoor is launching a series of tasting events throughout the year, which will make some of the world’s top wines available by the glass at cost price.

At the Sptialfields site on 14 March, the restaurant will be serving a Hawksmoor hamburger with a glass of 1989 Cheval Blanc for £80.50.

On 9 May, Seven Dials will offer a lobster roll and a glass of 2002 Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet, 1er Cru Les Vergers, will be on offer for £31.

The restaurant will be serving the wines from magnums, making it possible to sell them at cost price to a select number of customers.

Last month, Soho-based Bob Bob Ricard was the first restaurant in London to offer Château Yquem by the glass, charging £29 for 100ml of the 1996 vintage.

Only a tiny number of restaurants in France, Monaco and Italy currently sell Yquem by the glass.
