Aikens to buy back restaurants

Michelin starred chef Tom Aikens looks set to regain control of his London restaurant empire after agreeing a deal with an unnamed overseas restaurant group.

According to a report in The Sunday Times, Aikens plans to buy back his three eponymous restaurants from Peter Dubens, managing partner of Oakley Capital Private Equity.

Dubens bought Aikens’ business for an undisclosed sum after it went into administration back in October 2008, owing suppliers £3 million.

Aikens is understood to have fallen out with Dubens last autumn over a proposal to convert six of the Paramount Restaurants’ Il Bertorelli sites into the Tom’s Kitchen brand.

In addition to his one Michelin star Chelsea flagship restaurant, Tom Aikens, the chef’s portfolio includes two branches of his less formal brasserie, Tom’s Kitchen, which are located in Chelsea and Somerset House.

Until the end of February, customers quoting code BBR1101 when booking can take advantage of free corkage at Tom Aikens. The offer applies to both the à la carte and tasting menus, but excludes 12 and 14 February.
