Speakeasy at the Nightjar

The Nightjar has pledged to prove itself the “antidote” to overcrowded bars when it opens in London next month.

Catering for the City’s “discerning drinkers, lounge lovers and late night hedonists”, the Nightjar will serve rare, revived and classic cocktails amid the charm of its Belle Epoque interior.

Opening on 19 November with a capacity of 100 over two connected spaces, the venue aims to be a place for people to unwind in an unstuffy and relaxed atmosphere.

Cocktails are at the heart of the bar’s ethos and its signature cocktail, the 24 Volt Cobbler, recalls a pre-Prohibition recipe with seven ingredients including elderberry-infused chocolate eau de vie, fresh cranberries and maple syrup.

Co-owner Edmund Weil said: “It is amazing how much scope these classic, decades and even centuries-old drinks give you for modern experimentation.

“Some ingredients have to be tracked down to tiny distilleries, or we have been inspired by obscure recipes to recreate our own concoctions.”

As well as an extensive drinks repertoire and bar food menu, Nightjar has plans for a wide-ranging collection of live music evenings featuring jazz, swing, ragtime and boogaloo artists.

Nightjar will be open from 5pm to 3.30am on Thursday to Saturday and 5pm to 1.30am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. It will be closed on Mondays.
