City restaurant offers DRC deal

High Timber is offering diners a truly Glorious Twelfth.

The Thames-side restaurant near St Paul’s in London is celebrating the start of the grouse season on 12 August with a special meal offer to include a bottle of Burgundy’s legendary Domaine de la Romanée Conti.

A table for four has been set aside in the restaurant’s cellar, with the meal being offered for a total of £1050. While High Timber has said the vintage on offer will vary, this price compares rather favourably with the bottle of DRC Grands Echezeaux 2000 currently available on London’s The Connaught hotel list for £1150. However, L’Etranger in South Kensington has the 1995 listed at a mere £790 and the 2001 for £700.

Away from the distorted world of restaurant mark ups, a bottle of the 1999 is priced at £602 from Fine & Rare.

Neleen Strauss, owner of High Timber, said: "I use these words very carefully when I say this is the opportunity of a lifetime to experience a wine with such an incredible – and well deserved – reputation."

The offer is available until December and needs to be booked a week in advance by contacting Strauss on +44 (0) 207 248 1777 or info@hightimber.com.
