Fake Bollinger alert
Mentzendorff is alerting the trade to counterfeit bottles of Bollinger Special Cuvée, which have appeared recently in the London area.
The first reports of these fake bottles emerged shortly before Christmas and as Bollinger’s UK agent, Mentzendorff has assured the trade that it is working closely with Trading Standards officers to resolve the situation.
Andrew Hawes, managing director of Mentzendorff, noted that the quantity of counterfeit stock in circulation appeared to be very limited and added: “We would like to assure our regular customers that there is absolutely no danger that they could mistake this stock for the real thing – the labels being poor quality photocopies that have been applied to stripped-down bottles of cheap sparkling wine sourced from across the Channel.”
Despite the poor imitation, Mentzendorff made the decision to alert the trade after a few independent traders and bar owners around London fell victim to the scam.
