British food firm favourite in restaurant awards

The announcement of the shortlists for this year’s London Restaurant Awards has revealed a number of interesting trends, with British and Italian cuisine emerging as firm favourites. The award ceremony will be held on the 1st of September at the Grosvener House Hotel.

One of the recently-announced shortlists, for the 60 under £60 category, was decided by members of the public, who voted on a list of 60 independent restaurants that offer a two-course meal for two with a bottle of house wine for under £60. The shortlist of six consists of Brula, Market, Sam’s Brasserie & Bar, Sitaaray, The Prince Regent and Wahaca. The winner will be chosen by a panel of judges.

The shortlist for best restaurant chain is dominated by Italian restaurants, with Carluccio’s, Pizza Express and Strada earning places on the list. Also in the running are Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Ping Pong and Wagamama. The shortlist for this award was chosen by users of the Toptable website.

The awards are sponsored by property investment company aAIM and South African producer Jordan Wines, and will be broadcast on ITV London.
