Spirit of Bolivia

Herbal liqueur with a guaraná, ginseng and coca leaf kick

Product name: Agwa de Bolivia
Contact details: Babco Europe, +353 (0)1 202 0012
Agwa de Bolivia is the only liqueur to be made using the coca leaf, a 100% natural product that also includes extract  of guaraná and ginseng. Bottled at 30% ABV, a 70cl bottle includes some 40 grams of coca leaf, which are harvested in the South American country and distilled in Amsterdam. The brand has already achieved cult status in the US, Russia and Australia, and the UK will be the third European market to feature in the roll out. When drunk with a wedge of lime, the changing pH in the mouth creates an “oxygen buzz” – or it can alternatively be mixed with an energy drink or Champagne.

Classic gin brand White Satin has been given a revamp by its new owner. The new identity underscores the brand’s rich heritage, a logical move given that its history can be traced back to 1770, when it was one of the first gins to be produced in London. Since taking control of the brand from US-based Heaven Hill Distillieries in March, charteredbrands has altered the packaging, increased the strength to 40% ABV and reverted to using only natural botanicals, in a drive to take White Satin back to its roots.

While most Mexican beers are a light golden colour, Cerveza Potro is a dark ale made from 100% malt. The beer is packaged at 4.7% ABV and a 500ml bottle comes with an RRP of £1.85.

Wine Studio has been appointed as the UK agent for top Sauternes house, Château Gilette. The distributor claims the château “is focused on perfection, only producing in outstanding years and ageing the wine in concrete vats for at least two decades prior to bottling – resulting in their crème de tête, a rich fruity wine that is deep gold in colour and tastes younger than the vintage would suggest.” The château is owned and run by husband and wife team Xavier and Julie Gonet-Médeville. The range incoporates 75cl bottles from 1971, ‘75, ‘79, ‘81, and ‘83, as well as 75cl and 37.5cl from 1985.
