Tasting notes:
Located where the Peso River begins in the hills of Radda-in-Chianti, the Acciaiuoli estatecame into the Samminiati family when Ascanio Samminiati married Caterina Acciaiuoli inthe 1636. This wine, Santa Caterina, is named after that Caterina and her patron Saint.Today Castello di Albola is part of Zonin1821. This wine is sensational. Quite deep ruby-cherry in colour with a garnet rim, the vibrant black cherry and wild strawberry fruit isaccented by cedarwood and an earthy note. quite full-bodied, the palate has excellent fruitdefinition balanced by refreshing acidity and linen-textured tannins. A lovely wine with alingering, delicately spiced finish, it will pair nicely with roast grouse on the glorious 12th, ifyou can wait that long. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
