Tasting notes:
Part of the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage group, Akarua (\'Two Vines\': Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) has 34.5 ha of northwest-facing vineyards in the historic area of Central Otago, planted in 1996. This vintage, mid-garnet in hue, has very good Pinot Noir definition-black cherry and wild strawberry-with a cigar box overlay. Mid-weight, the extended palate is framed by bracing acidity, dense silky-textured tannins and moderate alcohol. Quite spicy on the lengthy finish, the wine would pair with house-made rump steak-and-lamb kidney pie. Brown sauce, optional, but to go really posh, then a Béarnaise on the side?
