Although from an ancient Veronese family with wine estates throughout Italy, Count Manfredo and Countess Sarah are the first generation to bottle fine quality wines inspired by \'classic first growths\'. This wine, from the DOC Monteregio di Massa Marittima, is grown in Maremma and is a beautiful expression of that coastal sub-region of Tuscany. Medium ruby-hued, the wine has ripe red berry and blackcurrant fruit with vanilla and chocolate accents and herbal and mint hints. Medium-bodied, the palate flavours are framed by crisp acidity and velvet-textured tannins. Allspice and cinnamon nuances suggest a pairing for \'the versatile rabbit\', here roasted with green olives, pimientos and tomatoes. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
