Tasting notes:
Gaining the highest average score of the competition, the Estate Reserve from Platt Vineyard in Sonoma Coast underscores the brilliance of Pinot Noir planted in California’s cooler spots. While there’s plenty of flesh, and sweet red berry fruit, allied to a complementary note of creamy-vanilla from new oak, there’s also a lively, palate cleansing feel to this red – with a touch of redcurrant bite, some soft orange-like acidity, even a hint of tomato stalk, and pink flowers. While soft at the core, you’ll salivate as you swallow, helped by a dusting of fine tannins. A serious wine that’s seriously good now, but could certainly be cellared for 5-7 years more.
