Madame Nicole Barbe Ponsardin, widowed at the tender age of 27, was an audacious, visionary strategist, who went on to \'conquer\' the world with the beautiful Champagne we know today as Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label. Medium lemon-yellow in colour with streams of tiny bubbles, the wine shows crunchy yellow fruits and strawberries with a fresh yeast overlay. Brut-style (9g/l r.s. to balance the Chardonnay), the palate is light-bodied but richly-fruited supported by very fresh acidity and mouth-filling yet elegant mousse. Seamlessly integrated and long, this is a perfect wine to match poached lobster. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
