As a fourth-generation wine specialist, Thomas Schmitt has traversed all of Germany to find the best expressions of Riesling. This wine, from the Mosel, is an intriguing blend of Riesling with a little extra from aromatic Kerner. Pale gold in colour, the wine is intensely aromatic, with apricot, orange blossom, honey and grape, accented by lemon zest. Medium in sweetness (26g/l residual sugar), the light, elegant palate has good concentration supported by zesty acidity, and a creamy texture adding interest and length. A delightful pairing is lemon sole in a Véronique sauce. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
