Vincenzo Florio founded his cellarin 1833, and today the winery is adominant producer of Marsalawines. For the top-quality wines,the grapes are mainly Grillo, withsupport from Catarratto, Inzoliaand Damaschino (usually in fieldblends, but occasionally in separate plots).This really delicious wine isrepresentative of the way dry Marsalashould be. Mid-gold in colour, the wineexhibits yellow peach, dried apricots,cashew nuts and older wood addingcreaminess. Dry, elegant and midweight,the palate has fresh acidity, with pepperyspice and a touch of wood tannin addinggrip. Concentrated and long, this is a finewine to pair with almost allMediterranean-style sardines, but it alsoworks well with many savoury dishesfrom Sicilia. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
