Harrods Macallan Boutique to open its doors this week

Edrington-owned The Macallan is opening its first UK domestic boutique this week (Friday 19 June), a dedicated retail destination in London department store Harrods.

The Macallan Boutique at Harrods opens tomorrow

The new bar, which will house one of the most extensive ranges of The Macallan’s single malt Scotch whiskies outside its Speyside estate, will open on opening Friday 19 June, located next to Harrods’ fine wine and spirits department, in the area of the store that previously housed Harrods’ Baccarat Bar.

The space has been designed by award-winning architect Jamie Fobert and draws inspiration from The Macallan’s Six Pillars – the principles that underpin the distillery’s approach to whisky-making, which includes sourcing, crafting and seasoning exceptional oak casks, small stills and using only the ‘finest cut’ of the spirit. This is reflected through the use of copper in the walls, oak flooring and ‘petal’ shelving, Albariza Stone from Jerez la Frontera, Spain, to evoke the origin of the sherry that seasons the Macallan’s oak casks, and sinuously waved walls that emulate the hills around the Macallan Estate and the River Spey.

“Immersive installations throughout the space invite guests to discover the mastery of whisky making and the brand’s deep connection to nature, which has shaped The Macallan for over 200 years. Whilst botanical features and merchandising reimagine the brand’s 485‑acre Estate in Speyside,” the company said.

The design includes a personalisation and gifting station, where customers can have bottles purchased engraved with a name, date or inscription of choice, before being gift-wrapped. There is also a  sampling bar, which can transform into a fine dining space for private events.

The boutique also incorporates artwork by acclaimed artist and designer David Carson and long-time collaborator, pop artist Sir Peter Blake. Carson, who most recently worked with the Macallan on the visual identity for The Macallan’s Timeless collection, includes colourful elements that represent European (red) and American (white) oak along with wood and amber that “echoes the sherry seasoning and cask staves”, the brand said. Meanwhile Blake, who has worked with the brand for more four decades, having first designed a label for a set of twelve 1926 60 Years Old single malts in 1986,  has created work that evokes his previous collages for The Macallan, forming “one final gathering on the lawn of Easter Elchies House”, The Macallan’s “spiritual home”.

The launch also sees the release of a distinctive gift sleeve for the The Macallan Rare Cask 2026 Release by renowned Spanish painter and illustrator Javi Aznárez, who has previously collaborated with The Macallan. The edition, which is released on the opening day, is limited to just 100 bottles, available exclusively at Harrods.

When it was first announced back in March, The Macallan’s creative director Jaume Ferras called the boutique a “major milestone for The Macallan” that would “push boundaries and curate an incomparable retail experience”.

It follows The Macallan’s interactive experience that commemorated the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise in Harrods. The brand has also ramps up its global presence with the opening of The Macallan Boutique at Heathrow Terminal 5 last year.

Harrods’ head of buying – food, wine & spirit, Andre Lewis said its customers came “in search of the world’s finest craftsmanship and most compelling luxury experiences, and The Macallan consistently delivers both.”

“This boutique will offer an extraordinary opportunity to sample and purchase some of the rarest and most celebrated single malts, brought to life through a space that beautifully captures the spirit of the Speyside estate,” he said.  “We look forward to welcoming whisky connoisseurs and curious visitors alike to discover this remarkable destination within our store.”
